Marilyn's escape was Palm Springs, a weekend away, all to herself. In blushes and beiges, she'd knot a scarf around her neck and jump into a convertible. Cat eye shades, always. And in her private moments - not many saw them - she was completely natural, stripped down to nothing but a man's shirt, fresh skin, and, Chanel No. 5 of course. Hollywood, it had a hold on her. But like she said, "beneath the makeup and behind the smile, I'm just a girl who wishes for the world."
